Krewe of Chronos Gives Local Man with Down Syndrome Starring Role

The Krewe of Chronos is giving a local man with Down syndrome a starring role in its Broadway-
themed Mardi Gras festivities this year.

Logan Gros, a 21-year-old Thibodaux native, will serve as the Krewe’s Honorary Captain. Logan was born with Down syndrome, a common chromosomal condition that delays development. Approximately 6,000 babies are born with Down syndrome each year in the United States.

“I call him ‘Mr. Mardi Gras’ because he loves everything about it. He is giddy right now, and so excited to actually be a part of it instead of just watching from the sidelines,” his mother, Donielle Gros, said.

Logan will be featured in the Krewe’s annual Tableau to be held at the Warren J. Harang Municipal Auditorium Saturday, Feb. 18 and will lead the parade behind this year’s King Dr. Allen Vander and Queen Miss Annelise De La Houssaye.

“It means so much to us for him to have this opportunity,” Donielle Gros said.

It is because of a partnership forged between the Krewe and a local organization, Upside Downs, that the idea surfaced to give Logan a starring role in this year’s Mardi Gras.

“Every year the Krewe puts on a skeet shoot fundraiser. This year we decided to partner with Upside Downs and were able to help raise money for their organization. It only seemed perfect that we choose someone like Logan to lead our Krewe this year” Ryan Myhand, captain of the Krewe of Chronos, said.

Upside Downs is a local nonprofit organization committed to helping service the Down syndrome community through new parent support, recreational activities, raising awareness and advocating for a brighter future.

“It’s about giving individuals with Down syndrome opportunity. It’s about showing our community that anything is possible with Down syndrome.” Beau Brooks, president of Upside Downs, said.

“We are so excited to be a part of this opportunity for Logan. It’s amazing what our community has done for our organization, and we are so thankful to the Krewe of Chronos for making this happen,” Brooks said.

The Krewe of Chronos parade, themed “A Knight at the Tonys”, will roll on Sunday, Feb. 26.
